Thinking of buying a Flappy Fish and wondering if your cat will actually play with it? Maybe you’ve already bought your Flappy Fish and need some help getting your cat to play with it.
They say first impressions are everything and that’s especially true when it comes to cats. Sadly you can’t get your fish to hold their hand out for sniffs and say, “pspspsps.”
So instead, we’ve put together this little guide to help you help your cat.
Start with it turned off
We all know cats get freaked out by sudden movements, and cucumbers, and most things. That’s why Youtube’s chockers with videos of cats getting spooked and Google gets hundreds of searches like “how to make cat like me” and “how to get cats to come to me”.
So, when you take your Flappy Fish home, make sure you leave it turned off. The flapping is a great attribute come play time, but it’s a bit spooky at first.
Fill it up with the good stuff
Get your cat super acquainted with your Flappy Fish by filling it up with the good stuff. No, not a bottle of shiraz. Pop some catnip or your cat’s favourite treats in your Flappy’s pouch so it smells like something they love.
Place it with their favourite things
Sometimes familiarity can help get your cat comfy with its new toy. Try placing the fish with the rest of their toys, on their bed, or somewhere they like to hide their favourite things. Putting it in a place your cat has decided is safe makes the toy feel safe too.
Try making them jealous
Just like humans, cats can be driven by jealousy. Seriously… Ever played with one cat and resurrected another out of the deepest slumber? It’s a thing, trust us.
Get your stubborn cat on board with Flappy Fish by getting them to watch another cat or dog play with the fish.
Once they’re comfy, turn it on
Once your cat stops acting like your Flappy Fish is from the cucumber family, you can turn it on. We recommend keeping the treats or catnip inside for a little while to keep the fish feeling comfy and safe.
